Andrew Brunsden has over 20 years of experience as an attorney and in legal leadership roles, focusing on risk management, investigations, litigation, ethics, and compliance. Currently, he is Chief Legal Officer at The New York Foundling, one of the City’s largest human services nonprofit organizations. Mr. Brunsden leads the Legal Department and oversees the organization’s Compliance program.
Before his current role, Mr. Brunsden was General Counsel (GC) and Deputy Commissioner of Legal Affairs for the New York City Department of Investigation, the anticorruption agency for City government. As DOI’s GC, Andrew advised the DOI Commissioner and agency staff on legal and policy issues related to public integrity, ethics, and investigations. Prior roles at DOI included Special Counsel to the Commissioner and Inspector General (IG) for several investigative units overseeing City agencies, including service as the first IG for the City Board of Elections.
Prior to joining DOI, Mr. Brunsden practiced criminal, regulatory, and civil litigation and investigations at the law firm Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello P.C. He previously served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Rosemary S. Pooler of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and to the Honorable Dean D. Pregerson of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He graduated with a J.D. from UCLA School of Law, a Masters in Philosophy and Anthropology from the University of St. Andrews, and a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Brunsden is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School, where he teaches courses on administrative law and public corruption law, and has written articles on independent government oversight and investigations.
