Jack Hsia (they/them) is the Senior Attorney for Community Legal Services at the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC), the nation’s largest Asian American social services organization, which serves over 80,000 community members annually across 35 sites in New York City. They provide legal services and know-your-rights trainings to CPC staff and community members across its education, family, community, senior, and workforce programs. They are also a regular volunteer at AABANY’s pro bono clinics, a member of the Issues Committee, and a member of American Immigration Lawyers Association’s (AILA) Client Resources Committee.
Before CPC, Jack was a Skadden Fellow at Communities Resist (CoRe), representing tenant associations across Brooklyn and Queens and providing affirmative and defensive housing court representation to AAPI tenants facing displacement, unsafe housing conditions, and landlord harassment. They represented nine tenant associations (100+ households) and secured major victories, including $170,000 in recoveries and $1.2 million in sanctions against the Public Advocate’s Worst Landlord (2022–2023). They also advanced housing justice efforts through the NYS AAPI Budget Equity Coalition as a steering committee representative.
Prior to law school, Jack was a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant and a community liaison for Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez. They hold a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from NYU Gallatin and were a Blume Public Interest Law Scholar at Georgetown University Law Center. They are licensed to practice in New York State.
Outside of their legal work, Jack is a community organizer with the Chinatown Community Land Trust and teaches monthly art workshops for youth in Sunset Park through the Brooklyn Public Library’s Artmobile.
Jack currently serves as Vice-Chair of the AABANY Issues Committee.
